spelling bee winner with trophy

Griffin-Spalding County School System (GSCS) held its annual spelling bee on January 22, 2024. After multiple spelling and vocabulary rounds, Rehoboth Road Middle School Seventh Grade Student Makiyah Sampler won with the word “sauna.”

The district runner-up is Kennedy Road Middle School Eighth Grade Student Siri Oduaran.

The annual spelling bee is open to grades 4-8. Each GSCS elementary and middle school held a competition in November to select one student to advance to the district level (and one alternate who participates in the district bee only if the winner is unavailable).

The Griffin-Spalding chapter of the Georgia Association of Educators (GAE) awarded the winner and the runner-up with trophies and gift cards.

Makiyah Sampler will compete against students from seven other counties in the GAE Regional Spelling Bee on February 24 in Conyers.

Congratulations to all the school winners and special thanks to the coordinators.
