Nominations are open for the 2024 Griffin-Spalding County School System (GSCS) Educator Hall of Fame. Established in 2013, as a part of the school system’s 60th Anniversary festivities, GSCS is seeking exemplary nominees for the Class of 2024.
Educators should be nominated for his/her outstanding and significant contributions to students, staff, parents and the community during their employment at GSCS. Nominees must have been employed at GSCS for a minimum of 10 years and be retired for at least five years. The district utilizes an independent panel of out-of-town judges to review all nominees.
Nomination forms are due Friday, September 6, 2024 and are available on the district website at www.gscs.org or at this link https://forms.gle/2R5iwRotGcgtQ42B7. The 2024 class will be inducted during a special ceremony on October 22 at the Griffin-Spalding Board of Education meeting.
The first class inducted into the GSCS Educator Hall of Fame included Richard “Doc” Beaton, Marie Ann Lombardo and Frank Touchstone Jr. The second class included Elizabeth Watkins, Nina Melton Jones and Chappelle Wesley Calhoun. Nancy Gresham, Margery King, Juliette McCann and Lemuel (Lem) Watkins represent the third class of inductees. The fourth class included Cynthia Anderson and William Walker. Bonnie Ellerbee, Laymon Hattaway Jr. and Tom Ison represent the fifth class of inductees. The sixth class included Georgia McCrary Matchett, William Matchett, James F. Johnston and Alberta Blanton. The seventh class included Ernest “Sonny” Bartlett, Jr., Eddie Gilbert, Oliver Quimby Melton, III, Ed.D., Sue Juanita Perteet Morris, Erwin Ross Jr. (Coach Ross). Patricia Tiggler. Sara King Manley, Gail Manley Hammock and Cyrus W. Daniels Sr. represent the eighth class. Patricia B. Lee and Dr. Michael McLemore represent the ninth class. The tenth class included Danny Bates, Herman Nelson, Dr. Pat Phillips and Margaret Weldon. The eleventh class inductees were Johnny Goodrum, June Lisle, Robin Samples and Karen Goodman.
